Mary Pichette, is the founder and director of Intercessor Training Centre (1984) and author of soon-to-be-published “Whole and Complete Woman of Value – Facing Trauma and making Life, Relationships, Family and Health Better”. She has worked directly with female trauma survivors, staff and volunteers serving women overcoming P.T.S.D., for 30 years.
Mary is herself a survivor of P.T.S.D. having overcome an addiction, homelessness and sexual exploitation. She offered her first version of a workshop on “Coping with the grief of others Trauma”, to a group of First Nations public health workers in 2001. Since then, she has trained a wide variety of people, including social workers, front line correction workers, families of victims who have been traumatized by women’s addiction, exploitation and abuse. She has worked extensively with community organizers and health care providers in how to care for themselves and others; how to have healthy interpersonal relationships despite PTSD and/or witnessing vicarious trauma. She has worked locally, nationally, and internationally. Mary is known as a pioneer in the field of overcoming the trauma uniquely faced by women, how to live life with trauma and teaching the skills to others in how to do the same. Mary is an award-winning Leader, having twice been awarded the William H. Donner Award for Excellence in delivery of social services, for her pioneering work with Servant Anonymous Society in treating female survivors of domestic and international human trafficking as well as designing ground breaking curriculum for treatment of women’s addictions incorporating her specialized treatment for P.T.S.D. as it affects women’s lives.
